The Pennsylvania English Language Learner (PaELL) Web site was created through a collaborative project sponsored by Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, Berks County Intermediate Unit 14, Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12, North Star School District, Reading School District, and the School District of the City of York. The project included the development of a PaELL Web site and a PaELL Resource Kit, consisting of three binders, one each for students, parents, and teachers.
The kit includes information for educators, parents, and students to support ELLs and contains products that assist these audiences with standards, assessment and instruction strategies, regulations for ELLs, and the development of district programs to address the needs of ELLs. The information in the Resource Kit is presented through videos for students and parents and hardcopy materials for educators. Videos are presented with Spanish and English accommodations. For more information about the Resource Kit and videos, contact your local Intermediate Unit or School District.
The project was funded through a Pennsylvania Department of Education Educate America Statewide Impact Grant, and all materials were completed in the summer of 2002. The information in the Kit and on the Web site are interpretations of the developers and accurate according to those interpretations up to June 2002. Thus, the materials do not necessarily reflect any official positions of the Pennsylvania Department of Education. |
