The video* opens as Felipe, Maria Luisa,and their two children arrive in the United States for the first time and are met by their close friends Maribel and Vincente. Maribel and Vincente have lived in the United States for the past five years. During this 25-minute presentation, Felipe and Maria Luisa learn what to expect when registering their children for public school in Pennsylvania.
The video includes useful information on a number of topics, including the records required for registration, the Home Language Survey, the role and availability of interpreters, attendance requirements, transportation, Pennsylvania Academic Standards, and the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA).Recorded in Spanish with English closed captions, the PaELL video for parents can be viewed by contacting your local school district.
